Walk As One 2025 raises over £45,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity!
More than 400 fantastic fundraisers took part in the third annual Walk As One event.
Last weekend, over 400 incredible Weston Park Cancer Charity supporters came together to raise more than £45,000 in our third annual Walk As One event.
Taking place once more in Endcliffe Park, participants completed either a 2-, 4- or 10-mile route through beautiful woodland and countryside.
At the finish line, walkers were awarded with medals and given cookies courtesy of White’s Bakery. They were then greeted with a party-like atmosphere, complete with live music by Sheffield band Toast, face painting, craft activities, delicious refreshments, and performances from We Drum and Hype Dance Academy.
Many also chose to take a moment to pause and pay tribute to loved ones lost to cancer in our special area of reflection.
The money raised through this year’s event will make a huge impact by funding vital cancer research, support services, and treatment enhancements.
Some of the walkers who took part in Walk As One 2025 did so in support of our ‘see it. treat it.’ appeal – which aims to raise £1.85 million to bring Sheffield its first-ever MRI Simulator cancer scanning machine. This powerful tool will revolutionise treatment by offering far greater precision in how radiotherapy is planned and delivered.
At the event, attendees were able to learn about the life-saving difference this machine will make and how to get involved in the appeal.
A team from Weston Park’s Radiotherapy department played a special part in the day, kicking off our 10-mile walkers by sounding the starting claxon.
Emma Prince, representing the Therapeutic Radiographers team from the Radiotherapy Department, said:
“It was a privilege to launch the 10-mile walk, and of course we very much enjoyed completing the route ourselves!
“Our Walk As One funds will be going directly towards Weston Park Cancer Charity’s MRI Simulator ‘see it. treat it.’ appeal. This piece of equipment would be transformative for our work. It will benefit so many patients and greatly improve the quality of life for people going through treatment.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to Weston Park Cancer Charity for organising such a brilliant event, and to everyone who took part in support of our hospital and patients.”
Representatives from Team Dave Thornett launched our first 4-mile walk, in recognition of their top place position on the event’s fundraising leaderboard. Their team has now raised £6,257, a fantastic achievement – which was inspired by the care that Dave received at our hospital for pancreatic cancer.
Steve Wragg, Chair of the Board of Trustees, did the honours for our second group of 4-mile walkers.
Emma Clarke, CEO of Weston Park Cancer Charity, said:
“It was a joy to see so many of our wonderful supporters out in force once again, for our third Walk As One event - we’re deeply grateful to everyone who took part.
“The money you’ve raised will support a huge range of our work. From contributing to our 'see it. treat it.' appeal, to helping us to be there, at every step, for the one in two people in our region who will receive a cancer diagnosis.
“I’d also like to thank our event sponsors West Special Fasteners and Thornbridge Brewery for their very generous support.”
