Local MP meets with Weston Park Cancer Charity bosses and staff

Barnsley Central MP, Dan Jarvis visited Weston Park Cancer Charity where he met CEO, Emma Clarke, and staff.

The visit took place at Weston Park Cancer Support centre which provides free services and support to people affected by cancer and those close to them, including welfare advice, complementary therapies, legal support and social activities that promote peer support and wellbeing.

As part of the visit, Dan discussed a range of issues from the free transport service the charity offers to local residents in Barnsley, how the charity is tackling regional health disparities and investment in research and clinical trials.

“It was great to visit Weston Park Cancer Charity, whose staff do incredible work supporting thousands of patients affected by cancer across our region.

“It was particularly interesting to hear about the free transport service the charity provides to patients undergoing cancer treatment at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The volunteer-led service offers free transport to people living in Barnsley, Chesterfield, and Rotherham who need it.

“I know cancer treatment is gruelling and stressful, not least in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis. This free transportation to and from the hospital is a lifeline for many and just one of the ways the charity is easing the burden on patients at the toughest time of their lives.

“I want to thank Weston Park Cancer Charity for the incredible work that they do.”
