Remembering Betty and Bob: Couple from Doncaster leave £144,078 to Weston Park Cancer Charity in their Wills

The gift was made in recognition of the treatment that Betty received at Weston Park Cancer Centre.

A couple from Doncaster called Betty and Bob have left a remarkable £144,078 to Weston Park Cancer Charity in their Wills.

Betty and Bob decided to support the charity because of the care that Betty received from Weston Park Cancer Centre after she was diagnosed with cancer. Betty was treated at the hospital for five years, before sadly passing away in 2009.

Gifts in Wills fund 47% of Weston Park Cancer Charity’s life-saving work, enabling crucial research, hospital enhancements, and support services.

A gift like Betty and Bob’s could fund three research nurses for the hospital’s Cancer Clinical Trials Centre for one year. The trials that take place at this facility uncover new ways to combat cancer and provide hope for patients both now and in the future.

The couple’s neighbour and close friend Terry, who acted as their executor said:

“Betty and Bob were devoted to each other. They went everywhere together, usually dressed to the nines. They liked their holidays and went to Holland quite often – always bringing back tulips for their garden.
“Betty and Bob were also a very generous couple. When they decided to draw up a Will after the treatment Betty received, I wasn’t surprised that they wanted to support Weston Park Cancer Charity. That was the way they were, always wanting to help where they could.
“They would be very pleased to know that their donation will make a difference to many people who are going through cancer treatment.”

Melissa Erwin, Legacy and In Memory Fundraising Manager at Weston Park Cancer Charity said:

“Unfortunately, one in two of us will face a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime. Gifts in Wills help us to challenge those odds by supporting pioneering cancer research which takes us closer to new treatments.
“We’re profoundly grateful for Betty and Bob’s incredibly generous gift. Their donation is a wonderful legacy which will change lives for years to come.”
