Weston Park Cancer Charity’s 2023 – 2024 Impact Report
CEO Emma Clarke shares highlights from Weston Park Cancer Charity’s 2023 – 2024 Impact Report
It’s a delight to share our most recent Impact Report, which focuses on Weston Park Cancer Charity’s work from April 2023 to March 2024.
In this report, we reflect on the progress we’ve made so far on delivering our ‘Together at Every Step’ strategy. The ultimate aim of this strategy is to create a better life for every person across the region who is affected by cancer. I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the amazing supporters, staff, and volunteers who worked alongside us to achieve that vision in 2023/24.
Between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, our transport service made 2,250 journeys, travelling a total distance of over 35,000 miles (that is more than the circumference of the globe!). Over 280 patients have made use of our service, almost 50% more than in the previous year, demonstrating the increased accessibility brought about by our new stops.
2023/24 was a monumental year for the charity, packed full of fundraising, community events, and celebrations. In September 2023, we were proud to launch the Big Purple Bus project. This service takes our expert cancer support and advice to underserved areas across South Yorkshire. By March 2024, our dedicated healthcare professionals and advisors had engaged with over 1,200 people, bringing vital cancer services directly to those who need it most.
At our Cancer Support Centre and Charity Hub in Sheffield, our brilliant members of staff continue to offer life-changing therapies, support groups, and advice to people affected by cancer. We’re pleased to say that in 2023/24 15% more people came for complimentary therapy appointments compared to the previous year.
Alongside our support services, in 2023/24 we provided significant funding to the Cancer Clinical Trials Centre at Weston Park Cancer Centre. I’m in awe of the incredible work that takes place there, and always humbled to hear about the patients who have benefited from the centre’s high-quality research and clinical trials.
My deepest thanks go out to everyone who has helped the charity this year. Your dedication and positivity enable us to be there, at every step, for the one in two people who will be diagnosed with cancer in our region.
I hope you enjoy reading about how your support is changing and saving lives.
Best wishes,
Emma Clarke, CEO of Weston Park Cancer Charity
