Christmas Star Appeal: Shining the light on our Weston Park Stars
We’re shining the light onto some of our amazing staff from both Weston Park Hospital and Weston Park Cancer Charity.

What inspires you to work/volunteer at Weston Park Cancer Charity?
As a researcher, we are always searching for a cure for cancer. The NHS generously funds most research. However, there are limited funds for clinicians.
I first started fundraising when I was in Edinburgh when I started a charity called FACE (Fighting Against Cancer in Edinburgh). We raised an amazing £15,000 to go towards cancer research.
I’ve been involved with Weston Park Cancer Charity since I moved to Sheffield 32 years ago. I have actively participated in many fundraising initiatives in order to raise money for our research projects.
What does it mean to you to work/be involved at the charity?
Being a Patron, after having served as a trustee for the charity for more than eight years, means a lot to me. I am determined to continue raising money for state-of-the-art research for this great institute called Weston Park Hospital.
Do you have a Christmas wish for the charity?
My Christmas wish is for more people to know about our charity and the work we do to raise funds to make people aware of cancer and advancement in its treatment and research to help people living with cancer in the community.
Favourite Christmas film and song?
My favourite film has to be Home Alone and my favourite Christmas song is Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade.

What inspires you to work/volunteer at Weston Park Cancer Charity?
It inspires me that Weston Park Cancer Charity is entirely patient-focussed and the work they do makes a real difference to our patients and their families.
Their priority truly has our patients at the heart of all of their work and I am proud to be work with them to continue helping to make a difference for our patients.
What does it mean to you to work/be involved at the charity?
I am happy to support the charity in any way I can. My main way of doing this is by running marathons in aid of the charity.
Do you have a Christmas wish for the charity?
My Christmas wish for the charity is a continuous flow of support and donations. I encourage people to contribute where they can, as the charity truly plays a huge role in making a difference to individuals across our region affected by cancer.
Favourite Christmas film and song?
My favourite Christmas films are Love Actually and The Holiday and my chosen song is Little Drummer Boy as it was my mum’s favourite.

In late 2023 mother-of-two Donna Taylor was leading her normal, busy, and active life when she was very sadly given the devastating diagnosis that she had stomach cancer.
