Christmas Star Appeal: Shining the light on volunteer, Maggie Cotton
As part of our Christmas Star Appeal, we’re shining the light onto some of our staff and volunteers from both Weston Park Hospital and Weston Park Cancer Charity.
We’ve spoken to long-term volunteer Maggie Cotton about her amazing volunteer work with the charity.

Tell us more about your volunteer role at Weston Park Cancer Charity?
I have been volunteering for 13 years for Weston Park Cancer Charity.
What inspires you to volunteer at Weston Park Cancer Charity?
I had breast cancer 13 years ago. I underwent radiotherapy therapy. It was something I was anxious about, but the staff immediately put me at ease (I even looked forward to my daily visits!).
The treatment was a great success hence I wanted to give something back to the hospital and the charity.
Do you have a Christmas wish for the charity?
I love volunteering for Weston Park, whether at football matches with a bucket (whatever the weather!) or at the Doncaster Races or at an indoor charity event. I love to be there. I am very much ‘A peoples Person’!
I long to see Weston Park Cancer Charity to grow from strength to strength and that more people will be aware of all the wonderful help it gives to those people who are touched by cancer.
Favourite Christmas film and song?!
Christmas is my favourite time of the year. I love to have all my family around me on Christmas Day when we have lots of fun, games and plenty of wonderful food! (Maybe too much!)
My favourite film is It’s a Wonderful Life (made in 1946!) and my favourite song is It’s the most wonderful time of the year by Andy Williams.
I would also like to add that my Christian faith is very important to me, hence I feel I know the real meaning of Christmas.

In late 2023 mother-of-two Donna Taylor was leading her normal, busy, and active life when she was very sadly given the devastating diagnosis that she had stomach cancer.
