Weston Park Cancer Charity launches first ever gifts in Wills campaign to mark World Cancer Day

This World Cancer Day, Weston Park Cancer Charity is launching its first ever gifts in Wills campaign. The campaign aims to celebrate the huge impact that legacy donors make and support those who may want to remember Weston Park in their Will.

Every year, over 9,000 people in our region will be diagnosed with cancer. Weston Park Cancer Charity’s goal is to further sector-leading research, enhance treatments, and provide support for people at every step of their cancer journey.

Gifts in Wills make up 47% of Weston Park Cancer Charity’s income, enabling us to enhance the impact and experience of treatment for patients, and their loved ones, at Weston Park Cancer Centre, ensuring it remains a leading cancer hospital for the region.

These special gifts also protect the charity’s services so that we can continue to be there, at every step, for people living with cancer.

Our new gifts in Wills guide

To mark to start of the campaign, Weston Park has released a new gifts in Wills guide which aims to simplify the Will-writing process.

As well as highlighting the many services and projects that legacy donors have enabled, the guide also includes information on Weston Park’s legal partners, Irwin Mitchell and Wake Smith Solicitors. Both Irwin Mitchell and Wake Smith Solicitors will be making a charitable donation to Weston Park Cancer Charity for every Will written through the campaign.

The difference you could make

Every donation left through the gifts in Wills campaign, no matter how big or small, will change and save lives.

• A donation of £3,000 would fuel one of our transport service minibuses for eight months - which would enable patients to reach 2541 appointments.
• A substantial gift of £300,000 could fund future research projects and enable global change in cancer treatment. For instance, the Ex Vivo drug screening project, which Weston Park Cancer Charity supported with a £300,000 grant. The Ex Vivo research project aims to improve outcomes for cancer patients, by trialling a new technique, to better anticipate how particular patients will react to certain types of treatment.

Amanda Traynor, who works as a Senior Sister at Weston Park Cancer Centre, has seen the impact that gifts in Wills make first-hand. Speaking about their importance, she said:

“Gifts in Wills help us to improve the hospital environment and provide support services, so that patients can have the best possible treatment experience. They also fund vital clinical trials which help to uncover the cancer treatments of the future.”
