Team Molly to take on Sheffield Half Marathon
More than 50 runners will be taking to the roads of Sheffield next week in aid of 27-year-old Molly Midgley-Hellend, who very sadly lost her life after being diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer called Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC).
The runners, who form part of a huge fundraising campaign in memory of Molly called Team Molly, will be raising money for leading South Yorkshire and Derbyshire charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity.
Molly, who worked at a Sheffield-based law firm, was aged just 27 when she passed away after being diagnosed with ACC in January 2023. Molly received care and support from Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.
The Sheffield Half Marathon is just one of the many charity feats Team Molly have on their fundraising agenda for 2024.
Team Molly boasts more than an incredible 150 members of Molly’s family, friends and connections.
Eleanor Molly’s mother said: “What Molly went through was unbelievably tragic and we still can’t believe we’ve lost her. When she was diagnosed, she made it her aim to raise money and awareness for ACC as it’s such a rare form of cancer.
“The signs and symptoms of ACC, mirror other illnesses that aren’t life-threatening so a diagnosis can easily be missed.
“Team Molly is a huge and special fundraising force, and we are so lucky to be a part of such a fantastic community that is aiming to raise as much money as possible for the charity connected to the hospital that treated Molly.
“The Sheffield Half Marathon will be a hard task, but every step of the way will be worth it to help honour Molly in the city she lived in and loved.
“Thank you to everyone for donating and we look forward to race day.”
